The Learning Design Game is a collaborative board game that brings together educators, students, and other stakeholders involved in teaching and learning to reflect on, discuss, and design for teaching and learning. Through a series of cards and activities, players explore courses from different perspectives, including student-centred learning, active learning, constructive alignment, sustainable learning design, technology-enhanced learning, feedback, assessment, and generative AI (GenAI). Players can discuss courses they teach, attend, or would like to develop.
Student perspectives are an integral part of the game. All student perspective cards are based on genuine perspectives shared by students from the five participating universities in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The cards therefore represent real student perspectives, enabling participating students to discuss even sensitive issues with their own educators by drawing on the experiences of other students.
As of October 2026, the game has been played more than 20 times by educators, students, and educational developers at conferences, professional development activities, and Learning Design workshops. The game provides an engaging and collaborative way to exchange perspectives, challenge assumptions, and generate new ideas for learning and teaching.
The game is currently undergoing its final round of beta testing and is expected to be available for general sale in summer 2027.
